Be Heard Manager
Emma
"I first became a youth worker through my background in supporting young people around drugs, alcohol awareness, and risk‑taking behaviours. Over time, I realised that what mattered most was creating safe spaces where young people could be heard and supported without judgement. That passion led me into youth support roles and eventually into managing the Teesside Minds Be Heard service.
Young people are at such a crucial stage in their lives — full of potential but are often facing challenges that can feel overwhelming. I’m passionate about helping them find their voice, build resilience, and realise they are not alone. Seeing a young person grow in confidence and make positive choices is incredibly rewarding, and it motivates me every day.
The Be Heard drop‑ins are special because they're designed entirely around the needs of young people. They’re informal, welcoming, and free from pressure , a place where you can talk, listen, or simply spend time in a supportive environment taking part in fun activities. What makes them unique is that they’re shaped by the voices of the young people themselves, ensuring the service is relevant and empowering.
If a young person was thinking about dropping in to give it a go I’d say just come along and see for yourself. There’s no expectation, no judgement , just a friendly space where you can be yourself. Whether you want to talk about something on your mind, get advice, or simply connect with others, the drop‑ins are here for you. Sometimes taking that first step feels daunting, but it could be the start of something really positive."
