Supporting Professionals to Support Carers
Across Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland there are a lot of projects to support unpaid carers.
We work in partnership with GP Practices and other community organisations to look at how they can become more carer friendly.
This includes looking at ways to promote the health and wellbeing of unpaid carers through initially recognising someone is a carer and then signposting to support for their specific needs.
Is your GP Practice Carer Friendly?
Our Primary Care Link Worker is keen to support GP surgeries to become ‘Carer Friendly’. Her role is part of the South Tees All Age Carers Support Service.
The aim is to help carers have better support in primary care as well as being able to identify themselves as an unpaid carer and utilise a range of services.
In June 2019, after extensive consultation with the Carers Trust UK, GP practice staff, local authority commissioners, Clinical Commissioning Groups, Care Quality Commission and carers from within vulnerable communities, NHS England published a framework of questions (quality markers). The quality markers are for use by GP surgeries to demonstrate how effective they are in recognising and supporting unpaid carers in a practical way.
It's imperative that unpaid carers are recognised and supported as a matter of urgency to help them maintain their own mental health and wellbeing.
Here's a quick checklist of the key practical activities that medical practices can introduce to become more carer friendly.
Reach out to find out how we can help you meet the criteria so you can be recognised as being 'Carer Friendly'.
Becoming A Carer Ambassador
Carer Ambassadors are professionals who have a passion for improving pathways and services for unpaid Carers and loved ones.
Our ambassadors promote the role of the unpaid Carer throughout the workplace and in communities to ensure colleagues are upskilled and recognise the importance of an unpaid carer.
All Ambassadors are supported by our dedicated team and have access to wider Carer services.
